Downtown STL, Inc Partners With SafeTrek To Sponsor Safety At The Touch Of A Button
SafeTrek, a mobile platform company committed to keeping people safe, has just partnered with Downtown STL, Inc and relocated operations from San Diego to St. Louis. With over 800,000 downloads, its flagship offering, the SafeTrek app, is simple-to-use, connects SafeTrekkers to its friendly dispatch centers 24/7/365, and immediately alerts and dispatches police in the event of an emergency with the push and release of a button.
Here’s how it works; when users enter an unsafe situation or are feeling scared, they simply open the app and hold down the button. If the situation escalates, they let go of the button and help is immediately dispatched to their exact GPS location. However, if the unsafe situation passes without harm, they will be prompted to enter a 4 digit pin to disable the alarm.SafeTrek not only locates users instantly with an average accuracy of about 5 meters, but also tracks their location during an emergency, enabling users to receive help even if they cannot speak or do not know where they are. SafeTrek also provides all 911 call centers with the ability to text users during an emergency if talking might put them in more danger.
SafeTrek is partnering with Downtown STL, Inc. which has purchased a six-month license, granting access for all downtown residents to use the SafeTrek application. “We are happy to offer iTunes’ #1 safety app to Downtown residents so they can take it everywhere they go,” said Downtown STL, Inc. President & CEO Missy Kelly. “We are proud to have SafeTrek offices in T-REX, right in the heart of our Downtown Innovation Community.”
“Since starting SafeTrek at Mizzou, our goal has always been to keep people safe. Bringing SafeTrek back home to Missouri from California was an opportunity we always hoped we’d have, and now thanks to the support from the St. Louis community, we can call Missouri SafeTrek’s home once again,” said SafeTrek Co-Founder and CEO Zach Winkler. “We could not be more excited to join Missouri’s already thriving startup ecosystem, which is the perfect environment to accelerate our mission to keep people safe.”
The SafeTrek team has chosen the T-REX Innovation Center located in downtown St. Louis as its startup home. The world-class venue provides entrepreneurs great office space at reasonable prices, access to capital and programming, and an environment where forward- thinking ideas are born and nurtured. “We are so pleased to have SafeTrek locate here in St. Louis. They are a brilliant young company with incredible promise, and an important example of the great growth of the tech ecosystem in St. Louis,” said Patricia Hagen, Executive Director of T-REX.”
Lewis Rice LLC represents SafeTrek as outside general counsel and is also a client of SafeTrek. Philip Mackey, SafeTrek’s lead counsel and a partner at Lewis Rice, said “We are thrilled SafeTrek has relocated to downtown St. Louis, joining the burgeoning St. Louis startup community. It’s an honor to represent a company like SafeTrek, and we are excited to have provided the SafeTrek app as a benefit to our employees at Lewis Rice.”
