Cultivation Capital Leads $1.2M Financing Round in S4
ST. LOUIS (MO) July 19, 2016 – Cultivation Capital, a St. Louis-based venture capital firm, is pleased to announce an investment in S4, a data gathering and analytics company that provides risk management solutions to financial, agribusiness, and farming players through its algorithms.
S4 has completed a $1.2M round of financing for improving and expanding database processing capabilities, commercial object development in the U.S., developing sales in Argentina and Brazil, and migrating part of the founding team to St. Louis, MO to consolidate its US expansion and for general working capital purposes. Cultivation Capital led the round with participation from Syngenta Ventures, Biogenerator, Six Thirty Accelerator, The Yield Lab and other private investors.
S4 participated in the inaugural class of AgTech accelerator The Yield Lab in 2015 and just completed SixThirty Spring 2016 FinTech accelerator. “This round of financing is a critical milestone in S4’s history,” said S4’s CEO Diego Steverlynck. “We are very happy to have found such a great team of institutional investors and we feel very much at home in St. Louis.”
Traditional Ag data is derived from multiple sources, and is difficult to aggregate and interpret. S4 leverages advanced data analytics to provide decision makers in the Ag insurance and supply industries with 16 years of historical information to assist with forecasting success of various crops within the current growing season. The Company provides Parametric (index-based) Coverages, Prescription, and Portfolio Management tools that are customized to serve target market segments: insurance providers, agricultural suppliers, and farmers/producers.
“We see enormous traction and potential in S4’s technology,” said Cultivation Capital Managing Partner, Brian Matthews. “Watching them acclimate to the St. Louis startup scene is promising and we are thrilled to invest in their continued growth.”
“S4’s technology makes innovative risk management tools available to valuable customer segments across the Ag industry in the US and other major markets that we have not seen before. Their ability to help transfer risk from the grower to the financial markets is groundbreaking and can benefit customers in many ways,” said David Pierson, Managing Director at Syngenta Ventures.
S4 is a data analytics company, located in St. Louis, MO and Buenos Aires, Argentina, that turns technical data from multiple sources into actionable information for agricultural risk management, by converting the growth of plants into an asset class. Data is aggregated from both public and proprietary sources. S4’s algorithms generate an index that is highly correlated to actual crop yields. For more information, please visit www.s4agtech.com.
